Leonard Bernstein’s MASS is a musical and emotional tour de force—a powerful fusion of classical, jazz, gospel, rock, and Broadway that challenges and uplifts. Originally commissioned for the opening of the Kennedy Center, this visionary work layers sacred tradition with contemporary expression, questioning faith while ultimately reaffirming it.
For singers, MASS is a thrilling challenge: its soaring choral lines, dynamic rhythms, and deep emotional storytelling make it one of the most rewarding works to perform. For concertgoers, it’s a transcendent experience—an electrifying mix of Bernstein’s genius and unfiltered humanity. While Pacific Chorale’s Festival Chorus presents selections only, without theatrical elements, the heart of the work shines through: a deeply moving exploration of doubt, belief, and the universal search for meaning.
